Youth Counseling

For young people who need someone in their corner

Being young has always been hard. But today, with social media, academic pressure, and the constant noise of figuring out who you are, it can feel genuinely overwhelming. Most kids just need someone who will actually listen and take what they're going through seriously.

That's what Brad does.

What Brad Helps With

Every young person is dealing with something different. Brad works with kids, teens, and young adults on:

  • Stress, anxiety, and emotional overwhelm
  • Family, sibling, and peer conflicts
  • Academic pressure and school-related stress
  • Feelings of isolation, low self-esteem, or uncertainty
  • Spiritual, moral, and identity questions

The goal isn't to rush to solutions. It's to help young people feel heard, understand themselves better, and develop the tools to handle whatever comes next.

How Brad Works With Young People

Young people can tell when an adult isn't really listening. Brad's approach starts with genuine respect, patience, and the kind of attention that makes even quiet or anxious kids feel comfortable opening up.

Over time, Brad helps young people:

  • Recognize their strengths and figure out what makes them who they are
  • Build healthier communication habits and coping skills
  • Develop confidence, accountability, and self-trust
  • Learn to see setbacks as part of the process, not proof of failure
  • Strengthen relationships at home, at school, and with peers

Sessions are conversational, never clinical. Young people move at their own pace, and there's no pressure to have everything figured out before they walk in the door.

A Little About Brad

Brad has spent his career working with young people during some of the most important years of their lives. He has taught at the University of Missouri, Truman State University, and Liberty High School in Wentzville, where he also coaches football.
His students used to come to him when things got hard at home. They told him he should be a counselor. Eventually, he listened.

Brad connects easily with kids from all walks of life: athletes, artists, bookish kids, science kids, kids still figuring out where they fit. He's a high school football coach with a PhD in Poetry who used to play in rock bands. He knows their world, and he takes it seriously.

How Sessions Work

Sessions are 60 minutes, one-on-one, and available in person or online. Every session is shaped around the individual needs of the young person. Some sessions are practical, focused on a specific problem or decision. Others are simply a space to talk things through without pressure.

When it seems useful, Brad might suggest something small to work on between sessions: a journal prompt, a reflection question, something to read or watch. Little homework assignments for the growth of their souls.

  • Format: One-on-one
  • Length: 60 minutes
  • Location: In person or online

For Parents

Brad stays in close contact with parents throughout the process, whether that's a quick check-in before or after a session or an email when something comes up. He can also suggest books and resources, and serve as a mediator if a parent-child conflict needs a neutral party.

Confidentiality is honored. Young people need to know they can speak openly, and parents need to feel informed and supported. Brad works to protect both.

If there is ever a concern related to safety or wellbeing, parents will hear from Brad promptly.

Common Questions

  1. Who is this for? Kids, teens, and young adults from all backgrounds. Athletes, creatives, academically driven students, kids navigating social or emotional challenges. Brad has worked with all types and all ages.

  2. Is this therapy? No. Brad's sessions focus on guidance, mentorship, and personal growth. He is not a licensed therapist. If a situation calls for clinical support, Brad will say so honestly and connect you with someone qualified to help.

  3. How do I know if this is right for my child? If your child needs a trusted adult to talk to, support through stress or change, or help building confidence and communication skills, this is likely a good fit. If something more clinical is needed, Brad will tell you and help you find it.

  4. Are sessions private? Yes. Everything shared is confidential unless there is a concern related to safety or harm.

  5. What if my child is hesitant? Very common. There's no pressure. Brad's calm, relatable approach tends to put even the most reluctant kids at ease over time.

  6. How long does this usually last? That depends on the child and the family. Some families come in for a single session. Others choose ongoing support. It's flexible.

  7. How do we get started? Send Brad an email. He'll take it from there.
